Young Minds fight for children’s and young people’s mental health. They work with a range of organisations that support children and young people and raise the standards around mental health; such as schools and local authorities. They turnover is circa £4m, through a mixture of donations and funding from trusts as well as private companies.
Young Minds has almost 60 staff based and maintain a helpline for parents who needs support. They do work across the country on projects aimed at addressing how we deal with mental health in the wider world. They are hoping to expand their reach further into other areas.
Young Minds volunteers get involved largely through the projects that are being run – their network, the Youth Activist Programme involves young people directly in shaping what they do and what change they bring to the communities. In 2019, you will see a new campaign to find new Young Activists. Their volunteers work on a number of different types of projects as well as the parents helpline which are both part manned by volunteers.
Patrick Scott; Head of PMO, is responsible for the recently incepted team. “I went to PMDoS to take a step back and develop the PMO Strategy. It is a new function and set up for specific reasons which has made it very reactive. I wanted to plan for the future and think about how it can evolve to maximise impact.
We covered a lot of topics, and are still in touch with Pete Brown to take things further. A PMO Charter will be written up as a first step to generate some discussion internally as well as more targeted strategies to demonstrate the value that the PMO bring to the organisation. It has put me in a good position thanks to the knowledge I gleaned to put forward a confident and effective business case.”
