Microsoft Project Server On-Premise

Project Server is the leading on-premise solution for project & portfolio management (PPM) and everyday work for organisations that do not have a cloud strategy in place or have restrictions on publishing data to the cloud.

Project server is the enterprise addition to Microsoft Project Professional (desktop client) and will enable your department or organisation to supercharge its project management.

The solution, like Project Online, provides enhanced project management capabilities through an on-premise software delivery model.

Project Server will enable better planning, objective portfolio prioritisation, improved resource management and streamlined reporting capabilities through both native capabilities, Power BI Report Server, SQL Server and Excel. It can be accessed by a variety of users, including PMO, Portfolio & Project managers, resource managers, team leads and other project team members.

Project Server is licensed using a Server / CAL (Client Access License) model.

Team Members

Team Members typically account for the largest user base within an organisation and require access to the web-based interface, Project Web App (PWA). Within the solution team members typically:

  • View, manage & update tasks

  • Submit timesheets
  • Collaborate with colleagues

These users will require the following licenses:

  • Project Server CAL

Portfolio, Project & Resource Managers

These users typically require access to PWA and Microsoft Project Professional (desktop client). Within the solution, in addition to the team member activities, these users typically:

  • Access information through PWA (browser) or the desktop client
  • Complete project scheduling and costing
  • Resource load projects & view resource availability
  • Publish projects to Project Server
  • Complete portfolio selection and optimization
