Summary

This course will give the participant a solid introduction to cost planning and benefits management.

The introduction of benefits offsets the more technical elements of budgeting, allowing for a varied and informative day.

All resources allocated to a project will be discussed, backed up by a continued case study to give a realistic outlook to the days theories.

Content

  • Review of the basic project lifecycle
  • Programme Management
  • Benefits management
  • Resource allocation
  • Histograms
  • Cumulative cost ‘S’ curves
  • Introduction to Earned Value Analysis

Expected Outcomes

The day’s objectives are to take the participant from the project schedule in Gantt format to a costing model.  This will take the form of a cumulative graph in preparation for the project to move from planning to execution.

Linking the project to its business benefits will be a constant throughout the day, giving a ‘big picture’ understanding of overall goals of the project.

The foundations for these techniques will be laid and used to introduce baselining as a precursor to monitoring and control.  The day will prepare the participant to assess the cost and benefit for each project, establishing a reliable base to carry out the tracking and control of any project.
