By advocating being a ‘lazy’ project manager I do not intend that we should all do absolutely nothing. I am not saying we should all sit around drinking coffee, reading a good book and engaging in idle gossip whilst watching the project hours go by and the non-delivered project milestones disappear over the horizon. There can be no doubt that during the economic gloom we have seen a significant squeeze on salaries in 2009/10 where project management is concerned, and indeed a recent survey of project management salaries across the South East of England showed the average salary for Senior Project Managers was £52,500 in 2009, as opposed to £60,000 in 2008. Last week it was announced that finally, the UK has joined Germany, France, Japan and the US in coming out of recession…..just. The 0.1% growth figure will be polished in the coming weeks but at least it does get through the negative growth barrier. We can now finally look back at six quarters of contraction (the longest period since quarterly figures were recorded in 1955) and start the positive climb. Read the rest of this entry »
